Deluxe Fashion Closet by Tonner – What so Deluxe about it?

If my memory serves me right, Tonner have released 2 Tyler fashion closets (one ordinary, one deluxe) and 1 Matt fashion closet in early 2000s.  There are several more for other doll series, such as Effanbee, which I could not remember very clear now.

About this “so-called” Deluxe Fashion Closet, well, the outlook is very different from the pervious ones – simplicity and more butch….but wait!!!  Why there is an over-sized fringe hanging outside?  It totally does not go with that simplicity outline and macho look.  And, what about the inside?  Unfortunately, I must say that it is very disappointed….same old, same old.

I don’t know what so “deluxe” about it…except the price is – US249.99!!!  I wish they could come up with more contemporary design ideas!

How About a More Contemporary Wardrobe Like These?

Although this one is already more contemporary looking than the previous releases, I would like to see doll wardrobes which could truly reflect the real contemporary life style similar as the pictures below.

Below is the official description of this deluxe fashion closet:

You're right, Cliffy - tremendously overpriced! And the large bottom drawer and knob are so out of doll-scale too!

FR wardrobe was much better design and 'value' for money, but the best so far in my opinion quality-wise has been the white wooden silkstone wardrobe.

Thank you for your comment, dear! I am happy someone has the same opinion as mine. I don't mean to be mean to Tonner. But they should produce something more exciting and refreshing, esp at this price range - US$249.99. With this pricing strategy, Tonner is definately not targetting at children but serious adult collectors. Would they be satisfied by such product?

FR wardrobe was originally planned with lighting effects but it ended up without. And, I heard that it is made of hard cardboard. The shape would distore if the humidity of living enivornment is high, like Hong Kong or other South East Asia countries.

Yes, I have been hearing many good things about Silkstone's wooden wardrobe!

I just purchased the Deluxe Fashion Closet and I was pretty impressed by it. It has a brilliant plan in that it fits TONS of shoes, and has plenty of drawers and different height bars for hanging. $250.00 was steep I grant you but given its beauty and quality, I think the purchase was worthwhile. I can see how the knob and tassel could be offputting but these things are easily changed. I like those features b/c I collect Gene and it has a hollywood starlet appeal. I do plan to cover all the mirrors with Art Deco inspired wall paper. The mirrors are a bit overkill. AND it would be nice if the trunk had a latch or magnetic closure. Anyway, just wanted to offer my 2 cents!

Glad to hear that you have purchased it and happy about what you have paid for! I could imagine that the postage could cost an arm also!
It would be wonderful if you could share pictures after you have modified your Tonner Deluxe wardrobe and fill it up with Gene's glamourous dresses!!!
