2011 has been a year full of bad incidents and disasters worldwide. Entering to 2012, I wish the world would become a better place for everybody to live, where full of life, full of dreams and hopes. If it does not happen that way, let's color it with rainbow color, not only for ourselves but also for people around us!!

The Golden Girl–Elfas (Deva Dolls)

This Elfas is a very special OOAK Deva Dolls to me. Beside the fact that she is my very first Deva Dolls, this face mold has never been commercialized. I bought it together with this stunning gown and golden shoes. The original wig was a curly burgundy one with good volume. But I wanted this set to be all in same tone, so I picked the Angie wig, necklace and earrings from the Sunset Rave Ayumi by Fashion Royalty. All the coordination turned out to be just perfect to me! I could not be happier to see how this Elfas turned out to be – a truly Golden Girl! She is stunningly gorgeous, so soft yet showing her attitude, shinning towards me all the way!

2PM - The New Ficon Doll

What would you do at 2pm?

Most of us would start working after lunch, and start to work our head off for a penny. I would prefer to take and nap and let me day dream going. How about sneaking out for some quick impulsive shopping and slightly pamper myself with a take-away coffee (Latte please!) ? In my dreams!!! I know!! But Ficon seems to be the lucky girl. She does not only able to do her shopping but also able to have a coffee break before heading for high-tea at a deluxe hotel.

My Point of View

Ficon girl is evolving and getting better each time I see their new release. The make up is definitely getting better. She looks like a cover girl without being tacky , one of the ideal girls for wig play. However, the down side of Ficon to me is that her neck is too round and thick, and lack of details, she is also a bit too busty while her limbs are too skinny and long. With this body shape, I think casual wear like tight shirt, skinny jeans and ankle boots fits her more than over elaborated gowns that would show here limbs and neck.

Display Showcase - Nostalgic Shots

I have this display showcase ever since I moved in this new house like 4 years ago. I arranged the display bit by bit whenever I feel like to. Many of the dolls in the pictures have already found their new homes, and plenty of the new ones have moved in after their departure! I should have done some photo shootings whenever I have changed the display. Anyway, before I could find time to take new pictures, here are some nostalgic shots!

The White Snake Lady – the 2nd Wave of Immortal Classique

Chaiyan (Nune) – A Part-time Model, A University Teacher, Now a Doll Artist

The 2^nd Wave of Introducing Asian Artists

In the end of 2010, I said there are 3 very talented Asian artists whom I have know and would like to introduce here. Cholo Ayuya (click here) from Philippines was the first one being introduced. The 2^nd one who I would like to introduce is Chaiyan from Chiang Mai, Thailand. He is also known as Nune2007 in doll forums.

After 3 years of planning and hard working, Chaiyan is about to release the very first doll of his creation, Sahara of “Immortal Classique” (LE 5 only), a fully customized porcelain BJD at 13.5 inches tall. It will be for sale online on this Friday night (28^th) midnight Bangkok time (time converter here) at his website “Immortal Classique”(click here). The dolls are already available and nicely packed in a special designed box for shipping worldwide.

What is “Immortal Classique”:

Immortal Classique is all about affection, love and romance that truly reflect who Chaiyan is (from my understanding of who he is :-P). Someone who believes true love is there and it never dies. The inspiration of Immortal Classic is mainly from the movies or real stories. This could be an impression about love like Romeo and Juliet or Mulan Rouge. The “Immortal Classique” Project:

Chaiyan’s working on Immortal Classique is not a secret. I am sure some of you must have seen his works somewhere before. Along the way of his creation from the sketches, he has been sharing his dreams with all his friends and followers in Facebook (click here), his own blog (click here) and BJD forums, such as DOA and some others.

In order to perfect his creations, Chaiyan has exhibited some prototypes at local doll conventions/exhibitions to collect doll lovers’ feedback. (e.g.: Doll Fete', Fairy Tales, Creative Art at River City etc.) Although he has yet released any porcelain BJDs, the local publicity have already reported on his creations by giving him full pages exposure. A few collectors wanted to buy his dolls on spots but he refused to do so until he is completely satisfied with his creations.

- The image:

By following the dream of having his own dream doll, Chaiyan created a very young models with small breasts, long legs and arms like those skinny teens who aim to be a super model at their early age - with youthful charm and cutie innocent look. It is versatile enough to carry either period costumes or trendy catwalk pieces. This 33-year-old doll-maker has a gift for drawing and painting, and his beautiful dolls are inspired by art, particularly the works of Ray Caesar and Mark Ryden.

- The composition:

Immortal Classique doll has 20 pieces and 14 joints, including articulated neck, shoulders, elbow, hips, and knees. All the pieces are hooked with springs and wire. They are engineered to enable a doll to pose in deep angle including sitting on the floor with legs tucked back, to one side, as well as sitting crossed-legged.

- Ultra Limited Edition:

Each Immortal Classique doll is hand painted with China paints by Chaiyan himself. With at least 6 times of firing in the kiln, the paint could stay with the doll forever, anti-UV without color fading or yellowish as time passes.

Since it is a personal workshop and Chaiyan sculpts and paints all the dolls by himself, so the edition could only be 4-5 pieces a month.

- The Ensembles:

The wig, costumes are all hand made one by one. Highly detailed craftsmanship is employed in the outfits’ embroidery and other ornaments such as headpieces, ear rings, shoes, etc. They are made as if they were meant for a real woman, not a doll. The ensembles could be make of silk, crystals, stones, metal and all sorts of materials that could actualize the characters.

Ambitious Enough to Give Up a Promising Career:

I have known Chaiyan (Nune) for over 2 years now. He is a young artist of 33 years old who is ambitious enough to give up his teaching career at a University in order to chase after his own dream to be a doll making artist. From the time he has decided to create his own dream doll until today, he has struggled a lot on how to perfection his creations. From knowing nothing about doll-making to self-learning by countless trial and errors, I have witnessed the evolution of his doll making technique, the engineering of his dolls as well as… … the growth of his self-confident. How honored it is to be able to be part of his adventure and be one of his companions.

I always found it entertaining when I read in Prego that some people posted their dolls’ pictures with the title “Just Because”. I guess sometimes you just feel like to do something without any strong reasons or a particular theme….you just wanted to do it because it pleases you.

So tonight, I feel like to do so – to post a few snap shots of my OOAK tan skin Tian Shi. She has been with me since 2009 (my previous report of her here).

The Prince William and Kate Wedding Doll

Prince William and Kate’s wedding really caught everyone’s attention. Prince William is not reserved in showing his affection towards Katy in the public. The public is also not reserved in showing their appreciation on how beautiful Katy’s figure is and how great she fits in Macqueen wedding dress!

Lately there are different makers producing figurine and fashion dolls to the likeness of this mostly talked about couples. Hum….the GBP100 of the wedding dolls did capture the essence of Katy Middleton but Prince William looks like his father, Prince Charles, in the “Splitting Image” Muppet show.

Meanwhile, Franklin Mint also produced a softer look of Katy and priced at US195 LE5,000.

Farrah Fawcett 2011 – Mattel Doll – I Am SO Happy to Make it a Hybrid Doll

If you asked me which factory doll of this year impressed me most so far? Doubtlessly, the Farrah Fawcett doll by Mattel (previous review here), I am so happy that Mattel has modified the prototype to Farrah’s likeness. The face shape, the chin and mouth shape have been improved greatly. But if you see from her side profile, they have missed the little hooked nose shape of Farrah. Otherwise, this Mattel Farrah rocks!

Happy Results of the Operations

This doll is black label so the price is friendly. After her arrival, I could not help but cut off the string that tied her hair immediately, and relaxed it with my fingers. Out of my surprise, the hairstyle turned out to be fantastic. The volume of the hair seems to be right too! Her head is humongous on that not so articulated body, which is molded according to Farrah’s famous poster (oh…where are her nipples, by the way?) So, I transplanted her to Natalia’s body of Fashion Royalty, and also tried her head on the Cuban girl of HotToys (review here) (need to work a little bit on the neck joint). There is slightly skin tone deviation on both cases but not so noticeable with naked eyes! Each body gives this Farrah doll different life! The FR one could turn this doll into a fashion icon, while the Cuban girl could help to recreate the famous scenes of Jill Monroe in “Charlie’s Angels”. You can see the difference between the two from the snap shots here. I wish I would have more time to do some proper shots in the near future. For the time being, I am content with what I did!

It is always so amazing to see how people would OOAK/repaint Farrah dolls (previous entry here) Noel Cruz, my talented OOAK hero, has done another breath taking magic on this doll. When I saw the stunning pictures of this OOAK on FB, my eyes were full of tears! Thank you so much for bringing our Farrah back to life again, Noel!!! This OOAK Farrah bid ended at US1,681 on eBay!

St. Tropez Collections - JamieShow

What a summer time!

Hong Kong is getting hotter with plenty of sun shines lately. What is better than hanging out with friends and family in the beach to enjoy what the mother nature provides us! Today I woke up and received a very summer, refreshing and inspiring email from George of Angelic Dreamz, which promoting the latest release of Jamieshow – St. Tropez Collection. I must say that it is impressive that I could not help to copy the pictures and post it here.

Jamieshow Keeps Moving & Inspiring:

Jamieshow has been showing great improvement on their products in terms of quality and design on each release. Their environmental friendly J-resin, so they called it, is sturdy and ultra smooth in touching, no wield lines at all even with their colored resin; the articulations of their JS body really really rocks (see my previous review on Jamieshow dolls here!); the optional expressive hands and wig caps made playing with fashion dolls so much easier and fun! Their shoes – a WOW WOW! The first round release of Alexandra Macqueen shoes are wonderful miniatures; the angel wigs sculpted ones are stunning and are my favorite, the black and white checked boots are a must have! (Well, I must say that the 2^nd round release of JS shoes are kind of disappointed to me ) I am glad that Jamieshow did not stop there, wait till you see the Michel Tcherevokoff inspired Cala Lilly shoes and Rose shoes of this St. Tropez Collection! I have my eyes on them!

The Designer Inspired Furniture:

They also add in furniture in this St. Tropeza! Hosman Urban’s fun furniture (click here) that is already tempting as they have all soft of design, shapes and colors; Jamieshow’s furniture are even greater in my own taste – more fun and more designer feel!

The Morphogenesis Lounge (SU135) and matching table (US35), the Her Chair (US65) would be great collectable for diorama lovers. I especially like the Silver Lockheed Chaise which is inspired by Mar Newson. (LE25, US325). Yea..with that price you can definitely buy a Jamieshow’s basic girl or boy (US295), and almost could pay for their IFDC debut new girl – Grace (LE 25, US395), a red headed girl!

My Picks:

Talking about Jamieshow girl, I must say that Grace is not who has drawn my attention. Guess how did? It is Eshe! I am so impressed by her Egyptian look, the exclusive one for Haute Doll Magazine. But, hey, she looks as stunning in her modern look also! I think after Sasha, Eshe is the promising one in Jamishow’s line! Eshe looks so good in all different wig caps. These 2 girls has more chic, feminine look, and do not look as strong as other JS girls. Sometimes in some angles, some of the JS girls look like a tranny.

Although Angelica and Sun’s images are yet positioning well, with the wig cap fun (only US30 each), they could let collectors explore how versatile they could be!

Please Let the Boy Have Fun Too:

Girls seems have most of the fun, but the guys have one item – unbelievable price of US10 for a bathing suit (although I found it looks a bit too loose), no harm to add one in your collection, so the guy could have fun as well! I would suggest Jamieshow also produce sun bathing towel with prints to go with this set, or a pair of flip-flop. That would be more fun! In this St. Tropez collection, there are 3 pairs of sunglasses (US35 each) but I found that they are not in the right proportion! Since they are affordable, they could be used as a “dioramatic” items.

The price level of Jamieshow is always wonderful. (Unlike some other brands that you feel always being ripped off.) Great price for great quality items, even just for diorama decorative purpose!

Experimental Touches – Deva on Fire!

I always admire people who could take great doll pictures and then enhance it with PhotoShop or any other photo retouching software. Having the Photoshop software installed in my PC for years, I have yet learnt how to use it or find time to explore with its functions! The technical terms there are perfect stranger to me and they push me away from getting close to it! Finally, today I tried a few clicks and explored it with some pictures. Not good at all but it is a good start, I would thnk!

Reminded Me of My School Project–New Releases from Superfrock

I have been running here and there for business trips lately and were not able to get online as frequent as I wanted. Not until my dear dolly friends both from Australia and Hong Kong mentioned to me about their new purchase of Sybarite – Geometry, had I then visited Superfrock.com and found that they have also released another outfits set - Picnic Magnet outfits.

Some Insight from Friends:

Both of my friends told me that the elbow joints of the Geometry have been improved by showing only one piece when they are bended; and that the slip-on shoes with metallic plat are cool in style - although the front is too sallow that it could not stay on. Plus there is a hook stuck out from the ear lobs for hanging ear-rings. Although she has no idea whether the hook could be removed from the lobs or not, you could further accessorizing her with more fun!

Reminded Me of My School Project:

To me, both pieces somehow reminded me of my primary school art project which my teacher asked us to recylce old magazines, cloth, candy wrapings, food packaging, anything we could recycle of, and sticked them on a paper to form our own art!

I could not help but notice why there is a blue feather ponygirl headpiece on Geometry! Is it inspired by the Circus? Having said that I sometimes appreciate how C&D surprise doll lovers. It may not please everyone but it spiced up the dolly world with their wild imagination!

Fashion Royalty– These Early Girls are Truely Royal to Me!

Good Memories of My Early Collections:

Well, I have not been playing with my Fashion Royalty girls for a long time. They were all dressed up and posing gracefully for me in the showcase behind glass for months and years. Some of the pieces carry good memeories of mine. Such as some great bits and pieces of my early dolly treasure hunting in Bangkok, pieces from no-body artists then but well known artist now. Of couse, there are some pieces of the early high quality official FR pieces.

Truely Royal Girls to Me:

In order to make space for my bigger girls who are coming, I took all my FR girls down today. I examined them one by one and tried to see which ones are keepers and which to go. I could not help but wonder what on earth could JW create such perfect faces. I mean those early characters like Vanessa, Kyori, Adele and Isha. I am not a fan of any new characters of these days, I must say. But all these early characters who have set the foundation for Fashion Royalty are kind of being ignored by JW these days! However, these “earlier” girls of mine are truely “ROYAL” to me. I love them and am glad they were all waiting patiently for my attention all the time! So I decided to take a few snap shots of all my girls….some mug shots but I am happy to “get in touch” with them again!

Spanish Heroine –Angie on the Song of Spain

After missing an offer of the Song of Spain (SOS) outfits for once, I decided to post a WTB thread on Prego to try my luck. I bought it off from a wonderful seller in the States together with another doll. Before this SOS outfits’ arrival, I already had Angie, of Deva Dolls, in mind to be the perfect model for it! The waist fits Angie perfectly. The bra top is too loose that need a pin on the back. Otherwise, it fits wonderfully!

I was organizing some dolly pictures and I have came across these pictures of Livewire which I quite like. So … I make up a story like that:

Livewire is a city lady who has everything – education, career, love, wealth, beauty…you name it, she has it. Things come too easy for her. So, once in while she would put everything down, leave the city and then go back to the primitive area and be herself! Oh well….being simple and close to the nature, so she claims….But actually what wants is even more – to be the … Queen …. of the Jungle! Does this kind of approach sound familiar to any of you?

Poppy Parker–I Love How You Love Me Set Arrived

Poppy Parker’s I Love How You Love Me set (Dolls Magazine’s Exclusive W Club Doll) arrived. This is the very first full exclusive gift set that I have as I usually go for nude dolls in the secondary market. This set has a cute pink box with a big pink ribbon on the side to tie it up. The doll has very nice slightly tan skin tone with light shinny blonde hair. I love her hairstyle, which reminds me of Sissy of The Family Affairs of the 60s.

But too bad that the hair is very thin, there is no hair on the back of her skull which is just covered by the top ponytail. It is very disappointing! As in most cases, people like to take down her hair and restyle it! This Poppy would not have enough hair to do so. Actually, the cost for that little patch of hair is very cheap indeed. It would not help to save much cost to the manufacturer but to leave a bad impression to customers instead.

This Poppy set came with 3 sets of outfits and matching shoes and slippers. So with just one set, your Poppy could dress for 3 occasions.

(1) Party: This is the set I like the best – A one-piece silky look white dress with embroidery in the front. The collar is smooth and elegant. It has a ¾ sleeves length white overcoat with pattern to go with. A pair of short white stretchable glove, stocking, a cheap looking purse and a head ribbon, also a pair of slightly high heels matching shoes.

(2) School Day: A red one piece dress with white top, flat red shoes and a very nice stocking with pattern. I wish they would include some textbooks as diorama.

(3) Night time at home: A pajama with a slipper. This is something basic 60s looks. It looks very cheap in quality but the scale of the checker is just perfect for 1/6 dolls.

Never say “NO!”… I claimed that I have stopped buying 12” dolls but I could not really keep my promise!

Honestly, I did not like Poppy's fat round face and her under develop teenager body. Blame it on all the bad influence in Flikcr, who have restyled and pictured Poppy Parker so impressively that I surrounded to the temptation.

After weeks of struggling and hunting, I finally found the Poppy that I could not resist – I Love How You Love Me! However, before I could have my hand on her, I found a reasonable priced nude Ask Any Girls Poppy…and she is here now!

I could not help but laughing when I saw that big “Y” on the back of Poppy.

I always wonder “WHY” there must be a “Y’ like a baby doll down there!

Nantha–New Deva Dolls–LE20

Another new Deva Dolls will be for sale online tonight at 11:30pm Bangkok, Thailand. Well, this new Deva Doll, Nantha, is actually a modifided face mold of Pharatee, the Indian beauty. The official description says that she is the sister of Pharatee, who represents a modern Indian girl. I like her high cheeck bones and lovely lip shape. The faceup is perfect and so vivid!

However, the complain from me is that her feature looks a bit too strong in some of pictures, and that reminds me of the Caucasian Thewa doll, Angelo. What do you think? The new under eye lashes are not there! What a pity!

This purple color theme Nantha has a refreshing look with short hair cut, chic leather (?) look top with short skirt and long boots – that is very different from the courture beauties of earlier Deva dolls. I really really like this outfits but not the boots. It looks too plain and a bit too heavy to me. Another short outcome is that she only comes with 3 oversized bangles but no other accessories.

She is US585 plus EMS worldwide – so treat it as a basic doll, that it is not bad at all! But ~~ how soon could they ship the doll? I could foresee many complaints again! Sign!

Mix & Match or Not Match? Let Me Be The Judge!

People always having fun on mix and match. However, whether the mix is match or not match, the line is blurry. For instance, we often see many bold design on the catwalk that we do not really understand or appreciate but they get great reviews! Another example is that the [Runway Project] juries always critising on those I like and praising on those design which I find so awful! Oh well, who say that we have to follow those famous people’s sterotypes, or have to see things from their persepective?

Here is the random mix & match of “Pink & Black, soft & wild” by me. Match or not match? When I feel happy about the outcome, that is a good match already. Below is the coordination of this Pink & Black:

Marl & B’s Exclusive Sybarite – Toxica

Wow, one after the others, the Marl & B exclusive Sybarite (LE100 and pricing at US729.99) has just been reviewed and for sale on their website.

After the new engineered body and new face mold V3 have been released, the 2^nd and 3^rd Sybarite, the Paris Convention exclusive PLAY (light blue outfits blonde and same design green outfits red hair), were reviewed. A few days later, the 4^th Sybarite, Marl & B’s exclusive Toxica, is for sale online. It is the 4^th Sybarite being released in about 1.5 months since V3 has been launched. What’s more, it is the first of the 3 Hells Belles series.

Toxica has colorful birdie tattoos on her arms, breasts and neck (not sure if more on the other parts of her body). She has the retro look…and as usual, I like her shoes!!

Judy Moore, a wonderful dolly buddy of mine, has sent me the pictures of Sen, the LE10 Paris Convention exclusive Numina doll by Paul Pham. It is the same Asian face mold as the FDQ exclusive doll Devon. She reminds me of a famous actress Shu Qi, which, honestly, not my cup of tea. However, after seeing more pictures of this Asian face Numia in different styles and wigs, I began to like her unique look! This Sen Devon is stylish and I like her purple theme!

Three Suprise”s” from Philippines–by Cholo

It is only 3.5 months since 2011 has started but Cholo has been giving me nice suprises one after the other! I received these 3 pieces OOAK from Cholo last week – (1) An assymetric tulle blue gown that show the long legs and sexy female body curve,(2) a upper body dripping beading ornate, and (3) a rock jeans with lots of details. I only gave Cholo a blurry comparison picture of Deva vs. Avant Guard. Then he could guess the exact measurement of Deva Doll as if he had a Deva doll on hand!

I don’t know how to describe the items but I guess my pictures would tell you all the details!

OOAK Lukas x 3 with Body Brushed & Different Skin Tone

Out of all the male face molds of Integrity Toys, Lukas and Daris’ are my favorite. I have 3 each of these guys. However, I do not always like their defaulted faceup. So I have all of them repainted and body brushed by Chewin.

I love flocked hair as it can bring out stronger character of a doll. I am lucky to have these Lukas with balanced hair line and the lenght of the flocks are just right to me.

Since the tan version Lukas revealed as a special convention doll of 2010, I have been waiting for a it to be released in the regular line. Too bad that that 2011 tan skin Lukas’ hair style is kind of odd to me. Anyway, if I am lucky enough to have one, I would shave off his hair and make it a wig head Lukas! Any ideas where I could find a natural look male doll wigs of this size?

Two The-wa Met – Oh…Not Really A Twins!

My tan Thewa of Deva Dolls has arrived for a while. I ordered some wigs from Chewin and hoping that my prototype Thewa and tan Thewa could share them. However, I found that the wigs could not fit my prototype Thewa as I have expected. After some serious comparison, then I realized that the face shapes, the head size, even the nose of these 2 Thewas are slightly different. Tan Thewa has smaller head, sharper face shape, slimmer nose.

Beside of these points, the ball joint in the back of the knee have slimmed down, which makes it look better. Tan Deva has an extra cut section above pelvis that enhanced a better articulation on twisting and sitting! However, he still has single knee joint which has hidden the ability of posing. Posing with him is still not that easy at all!

I enjoyed my photo shooting sections with these 2 hunks, but I have come across difficulties on giving the proper lighting due to their big contrast skin tone. Any good tips please?

2011 Fashion Royalty–My Picks

I have been waiting for the pictures and news on the 2011 Fashion Royalty releases. Terri and Stratos’ blog have given very detailed information with great pictures. I have 4 “WOW” when I was reading their blogs.

(1) Wow! So many dolls! How could they manage each of them and remember them all?

- It seems the list and pictures are never ending when I was scrolling down to see all of them. There are so many charaters that I have never heard of. However, their faces are somewhat similar to some others! It would take me some time and effort to distingish them all – and honestly I am in puzzle!

Who are they? Kind of interesting! I like both!

(2) Wow! They are all in “uniform” look – trent coats, high waist long pants or short pants.

What a tough job to make something similar yet different. What if collectors just don’t like this style, then it would leave them no choice on buying any dolls! On the contrary, if collectors love this style, then they would be on the edge to buy every single one of them! If they could not afford them all, then they would be in a difficult situation (Hehe!)

Adele’s style is my favorite!

This bride of Draculs looks like Vanessa to me!

This sunglass has been using since FR has sunglass. When will they produce a better one?

Isha looks very pretty but like a carton character & no more a Bollywood star!

(3) Wow! The new face mold of my favorite girl Vanessa looks somehow similar to Kyori now!

- What is actually in JW’s mind? Why would he need to kill such a popular girl’s face mold. I rushed into my doll room and admired all my Vanessa for a while. Thanks God, they are safe! Then I made a big sign and continue seeing other pictures.

Veronique (RHS) looks older and lesser sweet with her new face mold.

Her sister Vanessa (LHS) has a new face mold similar to her but it turned out to be more like a sister of Kyori now! (Big Sign!!)

(4) Wow! Many new male dolls (esp. on DG line)!

- Oh, wait … are they sharing the same face mold just with different skin tone??!! Anyway, my long wait of tan Lukas is over! But what a strange hair style and faceup….He looks like a playline doll instead a character from the premium line FR. Having said they I think I will try the DG new guys as they are very affortable!

I wanted to talk about it 2 weeks ago but I wanted to wait for a little bit more to see if there would be more to review. Anyway, I am surprised that I would be interested in the below 2011 Robert Tonner’s items, which are mainly gowns. All my friends know that I am not a gown person, I especial don’t like fish tail or bridal ones. I have no idea why there are always fish tail dresses in every single release. To me asymetric layers and use of mix frabic somehow shows more attitude and personality! . See through style is also one of my favorite! So you can why I would pick the below items…..except for their prices!!! I am happy to see that fashion-wise of Robert Tonner 2011 releases have some nice surprises!

Pharatee Play– My Mix & Match Girl

While I am arranging the archives, I found this set of snap shots! Amongst of all the Deva girls that I have, I guess Pharatee is the one that I have played with most! The reasons being she is always in the front roll in my display showcase. So whenever I have some new stuff arrived, she would be the first one to try on! Sometimes when I woke up in the morning, I found that Pharatee has “this and that” all over her that makes me giggle!

Anyway, here is some snap shots of Pharatee that I took in a morning before going to work. I have got these Avant Guard pieces from a very nice seller in Australia awhile back. They just fit Deva wonderfully!

Tan Apsara–Blue or Pink? Let me be Blue this time!

I have lots of fun taking pictures with this tan Apsara. She has upper and lower lashes, which gives her an ultra sexy Asian look to me. I always love open mouth with full lips, so kissable!! I took 2 sets of pictures of her, one in blue, one in pink. She fits in both color! Here is the BLUE set.

You Don’t Have to be a New Guinea Warrior to Shrink Heads

About a month ago, I read a discussion in Flickr about shrinking doll head with acetone without damaging the face paint and hair. When I first read this story, I thought that it was a myth. Acetone is the chemical that we use to remove the factory paint on dolls. Submerging a doll head into a bottle of acetone without damaging the face paint sounds impossible to me! Shrinking a mold is possible but shrinking a finished product? I doubt it! However, after seeing the experimental pictures of Cholo (previous article on Cholo, please click here), then I realize that we could shrink heads like New Guinea Warrior.

(1) What inspired you to do the head shrink?

---- Never really warmed up to Tonner body and their articulation so I decided to gamble on changing the body into an AG, even though I know for a fact that it will never be a perfect fit.

(2) What dolls have you tried? Are the procedures different?

---- I’ve tried to shrink bigger Barbie heads before and it worked (though I must credit Anj, my fellow doll customizer and artist who gave me the tip before (Gabooche in Flickr)

(3) What would be the attention points before, during and after the “operation”?

---- Always do tests... have practice heads around so you wouldn't ruin the project itself. Get familiar with the process and results.

(4) What equipment, tools, materials, working environment that are needed? Any idea where to get the equipments and measurement? How to judge how long time is needed?

---- Its basically just acetone, a bottle with tight lid and a well ventilated space. I should warn you of the fumes created by acetone, you don't want to inhale much of it.

About the bottle, make sure it is as small as possible so you would easily submerge the head totally in acetone. The acetone is actually just you over the counter nail polish remover. But different brands carry different strengths, so ratio here is the higher the concentration, the faster the results... and faster doesn't really help on zooming in to the size you want. You should check frequently by taking it out of the solution, running or stagnant water to rid of the acetone (don't touch the face if you want to retain the face paint) and letting the fumes evaporate, and when your not satisfied still, do the process again.

(5) What are the procedures?

Prepare the vessel to place the head, and pour in acetone until completely submerged.
Soak for 12 hours first. or more if you wanted a smaller head. (refer to #4 answer for tips)
After soaking, wash head with running water to get rid of the acetone.
Maybe just enough time to wash it off... 2 mins or so face down the pouring water.
Let the fumes evaporate in a well ventilated space, under the sun is best though. but after 24 hours, most of the fumes should have been long gone.

(6) Doll head materials are vary, some are soft vinyl like Barbie, or harder one like Tonner. How long should it take to shrink each of them?

----- There is no golden numbers to follow actually, while a good 24 hours would make a Bratz head shrink into Barbie size, for Tonner heads to AG size, i suggest just 12 hours or overnight (it worked for mine) or if still uncertain, check every 6 hours or so, then let the fumes evaporate completely... if not satisfied you could do the process over again. Its better to not over do it for the results are irreversible.

(7) After the head is shrunk, if it is not small enough, could we repeat the procedures again?

---- Yes. (refer to #4)

Compare: The two heads are almost the same size, though Joan's chin is prominent compared to AG.

(8) Would the materials (vinyl, plastics) be damaged, like cracks etc.?

----- be careful not to shrink heads too much. The smaller the head gets, the harder it becomes, and the more fragile it becomes too... too hard of a head can crack along the hairline.

(9) What if the shrinkage on the neck hole is too much?

---- About neck holes, have an exacto knife ready for scraping. As for the Tonner head to AG body experiment of mine. I scraped off some around the hole area, just enough to accommodate the knob of the AG body which is bigger than the former body. I did NOT push the knob all the way in actually. As for 1;6 scale bodies, since most of the neck knobs are similar, and the neck holes hard after shrinking, a simple heat application (like a blow dryer or hot water) will soften the hole and simply attach it. So, just observe if there is tightening along the neck ring. If so, just remove it again and scrape some off for movement.

Tonner had a smaller knob and a thicker neck... while AG had a bigger knob and thinner neck. So that’s a lot to deal with.

since the head had shrunk, I could not accommodate the larger knob of the AG body, so I scraped some around the ring just enough to hold the knob, it would shrink more in time as the acetone evaporates and harden it back to its texture (it became soft after the soak, like Barbies) and eventually tightening the grip to the knob. I scraped off some too along the chin and jaw areas for up and down and sideways motion since it fitted like a Ken Doll before.

Not Perfect, but on studio pictures, its tolerable. Not snug, I just placed the AG knob which was bigger compared to Tonner just enough to hold it, Not all the way

(10) Could we enlarge it back again? Or if we could enlarge AG’s head to Tonner’s head size?

---- I have no idea. But I don’t think its possible.

Tips:

1. if you can handle the acetone fumes after soaking, this is the best time to re-root a Tonner head (which is hard and thick than usual heads)... the head is actually soft and manageable after the soaking and rinsing process. Re-rooting needles bore in effortlessly to the scalp, and as the fumes evaporate, the head comes back to a harder form, sealing all the re-rooted hair in place.

2. Practice makes perfect. Practice with thrift store heads, and try on different strengths of acetone that you feel you are comfortable with.

3. Be familiar with what your working with. There are tones of comparison pictures online like in this pagehttp://materielceleste.forumactif.com/t18180-comparaisons-corps-fashion-dolls-images-liens . Remember, not all heads would work with just any body.

4. And most of all... have FUN! (While wearing a gas mask of course) LOLs.

Swallow Sybarite–a Great Theme Doll…no more these days??

I used to be a fan of Sybarite. I started my collection of Sybarite when I came across the hot discussion on Prego by chance on the day that Haute Couture Magazine exclusive Sybarite was for sale online. In order to eligable to order one Sybarite, I subscribed HC magazine for 2 years implusively. I was lucky to be able to order Skye (although I prefer the other one more)! Then my serious collection started to grow from Snow Baby onwards….Couture Salon, Pony, Rosemary, Parsley, Swallow, Inque….

Since V3, the modified face mold and newly engineered body of Sybarite, released, I began to miss my Sybarite. In my opinion, all the new changes have distroyed Sybarite. They have changed something they should not have changed (e.g.: face, nose, eyes…yuck!). And also changed something, such as elbows, hips, thigh joints, in an incapble way) That makes me miss the Sybarites that I used to have. Swallow is actually very nice in terms of great theme, design, styling, quality, as well as the tiny little touches such as the scratches and the wings!! I searched my archiev and found these pictures! I just LOVE them!!

It has been a long time since I bought anything new for 12” dolls. I had just come across some cool loose items online the other days and I could not stop from buying some! Here is an outfits from HotToys and it fits Lukas just so well. With this new look, he could be a professional killer, or a Korean pop singer who could dance so cool as you could see on MV, or a top catwalk model, or a Valentine or Romeo coming out from the dark and lightening up somebody’s life! It is totally up to your imagination!

More information on V3 New Body

We have seen more pictures of the V3 pictures in Prego in the past few days. Many buyers already received their dolls and taken some great pictures. I mean they are trying hard to show the best of this V3 in their pictures. However, judging from all the pictures that I have seen, the changes (yea, I call it “changes” but not “improvement”) on Syb are big but not necessary impressive at all!!!

(1) Taller than the older version

(2) Head is bigger, so the hard cap wigs would not fit the new head anymore. It also means that she has a big head on like Tonner dolls now.

(3) She has a longer round neck with no details. The sexy lines on the neck is gone.

(4) The busts plate section is lowered, no good for bra or bikini. The V-shape of her rib cage looks like the FR body. While JS body shape is rocking the fashion doll world, FR2 body has great improvement and looks similar to JS, Syb seems went backward.

(5) V3 has higher feet arch and slimmer feet, so she would not fit all old Syb shoes, or there would be plenty of hollow when she is on old shoes.

(6 ) Although V3 showed great improvement on articulation by using double knees and elbow joints, it also scarified the beauty of the body lines in the mean time. You can see her elbows joints stucking out here and there almost in every picture. Although the hips is slimmed down, there are extra sections cut on the hips. Syb looks like a muppet more than a top model to me now! (Sign!)

(7) The newly modified face (narrower nose bridge in front, higher from the side) deeper eye sockets, closer between the eyes etc. make V3 look much older and a plastics surgey friend to me!

There is no arguement that the old body, especially the huge square hips, is annoying to most doll fashion makers or collectors, yet it is better than the new one to me personally! Blam me conservative, I still prefer the older face molds like Pony (a bit rounder face) or Rosemary (slimmer face)! This V3 makes me miss my older Sybarite!!

Rosemary…one of my most favorite faceup Syb.

Love this styling…Although the body is not perfect but at least you would not see joints stucking out. And the square butt is well hidden.I am going to miss this face of Syb

Updates (10th Feb. 2011)

That was fast, someone has already received their V3 and uploaded pictures to Flickr. Ok, below are the points either from my observation or told by my dolly buddy.

(1) V3 has new engineered body with double joints on elbows and kness;

(2) the upper torso could now twist better;

(3) the hips are not as huge and square as it used to be.

(4) It seems they have also modified the face. Judging from the pictures, V3 has narrower nose in the front view, with higher nose bridge on the side view;

(5) the eyes socket seems closer (or is it caused by the faceup?)

(4)+(5) It makes her feature look much tougher and very old FMHO!

(6 ) One important point is that she has even higher feet arch then before. Meaning that V3 could NOT fit some old shoes.

Just got the email from Superfrock about the their V3 DD_025 for sale online. This time Superfrock provided 2 pictures instead of just one. It is the very first doll they released in 2011. I wonder if the long discussed new Sybarite body would be used in this one….but no news in the email or hints in the official description at all (see the description in the end of this blog). But I have noticed 3 other changes instead: (1) Sybarite has more jewellery than the previous releases (2) she has “growth up” alot …You know what I mean! And (3) wow…a big price increament from GBP327.5 to GBP438!!! (Remember this price listed is in GBP but not US$!!!!)

My Project of 2nd Generation JamieShow Body + Avant Guard Head

Those who are on my Flickr friend list might have already seen the result of my project on Avant Guard’s head on the 2nd generation Jamie show's body (click here). This “hybrid” doll is astonishing! It has drawn almost all of my attention in the past 2 months! I have bought a Eclectic about half a year ago, then in just less that 2 months’ time, I have collected more AG than I have expected… …

The Match and Not Match:

The AG that I have are: - Freeze Frame, Eclectic, On Edge, Goldmine, LUSH and Livewire. Freeze Frame’s skin tone fits Caucasian JS body the best, then Eclectic comes second. On Edge is a bit earthy in tone, not perfect but ok to play with. Goldmine and LUSH are too pale that is totally out of the question!. Livewire, unfortunately, is not AA black but mocha tan while JS’s AA body is actually reddish orange tan, not a good match!

The Clever Engineering:

The full articulation (almost) of JS’s body plus the varieties on the expressive hands make her versatile and able to pose as a fashion model. She could even do some seductive poses like leaning on one side and have her legs crossed gracefully. All thank you to the clever engineering on the mobility thighs. The “cross guide” design inside the upper leg section does not only help to hold the legs in position but also gives the mobility to the maximum. You can see a comparison picture on an original Goldmine verse Freeze Frame head on JS body picture here. Goldmine looks very stiff and could not stand properly, while with just a feel twists on the JS body, she could pose really really lovely!

AG vs... Tonner Head:

This JS replacement body comes with 2 adaptors, one for Tonner and a shorter one for Antoinette. I tried my Freddy Tan repainted Daphne on that body, the adaptor poked inside the head hole firmly. The head could move in all direction smoothly. Except that what you look at the doll from the bottom up, it looks as if there a short gap between the head and the neck. Having said that if you look from the front or have the head pointing downward a little bit, it looks cool!

Meanwhile, AG’s head size is a perfect match in scale as if the body is designed for AG. The original AG’s head could not tilt much as if she has a stiff neck, but once it is on JS body, AG becomes alive. The only weakness is that if you do not hold the doll upright, the head would fall off. I hope JS would consider produce an adaptor to fit AG also. After all, there are many people like me wanted to have AG head on JS body!

Note: The position of the hole in the head is vary from head to head! It does not only happen on AG but also on Tonner. I have no ideas why though!

Note: The head could tilt around smoothly and hold the position. When you move the head downwards, it would look like that in the back. But don’t worry, the head would not fall. Only when you pointing the whole doll flat less the 180 degrees, then the head would fall off.

If you do not want to glue it on permanently, you can use eye putty for BJD inset eyes or blue tack to keep it in place. Then you could change heads whenever you like.

Further Improvements Suggestion:

Any further improvement needed? To me, if JS body could have a double knee joints, and do some shape modification on the sole (with higher arch) and toes (in greater details like her hands), then she would be close to perfect to me!

Further to my previous posts on Cholo's OOAK Antoniette, Salam (click here), and his OOAK Natalia, The Chinese Empress (click here), for Chinese New Year, I stumbled to his accessories work! These days I am very interested in beading with triable essence. Cholo's work is amazing! I have just asked Cholo that if he would consider doing it in the doll scale. I would love some of my girls and boys with these necklaces on. Cholo replied that it could be considered, if he could find the proper materials.

2011 We Club Upgrade Dolls

Out of my surprise, I received an email from Alain Tremblay of Integrity regarding the W Club membership. I think have already stopped being a member for 2 years now. My last W Club doll is Going Public Eugenia, which I am still very fond of until today.

Anyway, I am surprised to see one of the membership “Upgrade Dolls” is an Avant Guard with a new face mold. Why am I surprised? It is because I thought that it was a strong jaw face version of Misaki,

If we compare with the previous AG, this one has rooted hair instead of wigged one, the whole style is too plain to be an Avant Guard. The only item that speaks to me of this doll is her shoes. Well, it is not particularly stunning, but I guess it would be easy to play with mix and match.

Meanwhile, the Kyori club doll is kind of disappointed, FMHO! I still remember how impressed I was when I first saw the club doll Going Public Eugenia’s official pictures!
